In pursuit of a childhood dream I have devoted 30 years of my life to designing and building beautiful homes. Over this time I have had the opportunity to work with and learn from many architects, engineers, truss designers, contractors and homeowners. I began my career with my father, 3 brothers building homes from start to finish. From pouring the foundation to final clean up and handing over the keys. Homes of all building types, from conventional frame to heavy timber frame. These years of hands-on work gave me master carpentry skills and common sense building practices.At 30, to compliment my BS in Industrial Engineering, I returned to school for training in CAD software and residential design. My work in design started in '94 with a large midwest building components manufacturer. I worked my way through production floor framing to sales dept drawing plans and finally to engineering dept producing production layouts for plant manufacture. Prior to leaving I was the only production designer entrusted by the Engineering Manager to complete roof truss designs and layouts for the truss supplier.In '96 I went to work for a building supplies retailer and truss manufacturer. In my second year there, among the responsibilities of design, estimating and customer sales I initiated and managed a building component, or custom framing shop to 'panelize' wall & floor sections. Not only did I learn complicated roof design but also structural analysis and material application/specification throughout the whole building. The last year, I completed 52 framing projects, many of which I designed myself.7 years later I started a second building component shop as part of a larger wholesale lumber company. My primary duties were: production start-up, sales, production floor/wall panel design, project management, QC, IC and billing/accounting. At this point in my career I had advanced my knowledge in solid modeling, structural analysis and business software applications. After 3 years of successful operation of this company division I returned to my original passion of architectural design working out of my home.
My goal early in my design career was to learn all aspects of residential construction. To know the house top to bottom. To be able to design, build and manage a project for homeowners as well as contractors and offer as much knowledge as possible from one source thus minimizing error that is both unpleasant and costly.
